As a little girl I used to love to go to my grandparents house. They lived on a farm on the outskirts of Charlotte, NC. My grandmother had this amazing doll collection which she started when she herself was a young girl. She had several rooms in the house devoted to displaying these dolls. Of course I was only allowed to look at them, as some of them were very delicate and very old they would just fall apart.
There was one room full of dolls that I would not enter EVER.. just because of this one doll that was in there. Even as a little girl that really had not knowledge of "Ghosts" there was just something about this doll that truly frightened me. Even though even then parts of the eyes had faded away I always felt as if this doll was starting at me... there was just an ora around this doll that I didn't like.
It wasn't till I was older.. in my early teens, that my grandmother started to tell me stories about this doll. I came to find out that even my grandmother was very weary of this doll. It seems that years ago when my grandmother was around 7 or 8 she and one of her little girlfriends where in the tree orchard that her friends parents owned. They were climbing the trees having a good ol' time when the little friend fell out of the tree, broke her neck and died instantly. My grandmother and her friend both had their dolls with them that day and had them sitting at the bottom of the tree where they were climbing. In all the rush, the dolls were forgotten until about a week later when my grandmother went back to get her doll, she saw that her friends doll was also there and she took it also. (that is when her collection of dolls started)
There were many stories I heard in the coming years regarding that doll. How my grandmother ended up putting it in a trunk in the barn after she took it because she felt there was something wrong about the doll. It stayed there till she married and later when her parents died they left her and my grandfather the farm. It was then that my grandfather found the doll when he was cleaning out the barn. And for some reason my grandmother now felt she had to keep it in the house, where it sat, or rather fell ever since.
I was told many times how my grandmother would put the doll on one of the shelves that was built for her collection, only to come back a few hours or even a few days later and find the doll laying on the floor. Even though it was leaning against another doll for support to sit up on the self.. The other doll would be untouched yet this one would always end up in the floor. So finally it was just left there.
Several weeks ago, my grandmother who is now in her 80's was put into a long term care facility. Being her oldest granddaughter, she gave to me the majority of her collection including this freaky doll, I so hated as a child.
This doll really does bother me, to the point that when I first got it, I left it in the back of the van for the first 2 weeks because I didn't want it in the house. I have since kept it sitting in the floor of the front entry way..(an area I never use, since I always use the back door) not wanting to give it a chance to "fall" off of anything.. to actually see that would just be too much for me. I had a friend over a few nights ago.. I had to let her in the front door and she saw the doll and even she remarked later that evening about how she felt a strange feeling around the doll. I can't even describe how creepy the doll makes you feel. Kind of between a someone is staring at you and you are waiting for them to jump out of the dark feeling.
In all honestly I just want this doll gone. I am sure that someone could appricate it much more than I can.
